About

Save Peat Meadow is an organization started by neighbors. We love Worcester and want to make it a better place with responsible development and open spaces. We believe that Peat Meadow is more than just an empty lot at 3 Suburban Road. It is a historic interdrumlin peatland that is buried beneath decades of mistreatment. It is fed by multiple freshwater springs from adjacent hills, protects our groundwater, and serves an important role in flood water mitigation, even with the feet upon feet of fill that have been dumped on top of it.
Development of this land would not only create a traffic nightmare, it would create a future public health hazard to anyone who lives, goes to school, visits parks, or drives through the area as potentially toxic fill is excavated, and contaminants become airborne, flow off the property with rainwater, or enter groundwater and seep up as gases through basement floors.
Peat Meadow has enormous potential as a restored peatland sponge park that would not only create a more sustainable future in our region, but connect residents from multiple neighborhoods through this unique property. Let’s work together to make sure that what happens here is something we can look forward to, not something we will regret.
